Downtown and Wilshire Collection planters, The Clark Hotel, Los Angeles

We recently worked with Syntax Builders on the pool deck of the Clark Hotel. This historic hotel in the heart of downtown L.A. was built in 1913, and known for most of its years as the Hotel Clark. The current owners are adding a pool and lounge area, and reopening the building as a 350-room hotel.

New 2- and 3-stream Urban Collection recyclers

If you flip through this year’s catalog, you’ll find that we put a lot of work into expanding our range of ash & trash receptacles. We’ve added a number of options to what we were creating before, including adding a range of 1-, 2- and 3- stream recycling systems. They will be part of our Urban and Wilshire Collections, two of our best selling products.

Wilshire Collection trash receptacle and ash tray at Nordstrom, Santa Monica

We supplied Wilshire Collection planters, trash receptacles and ash trays for the brand new Nordstrom store at the Santa Monica Place shopping center at the end of the Santa Monica 3rd St. Promenade. If you’ve ever been around the promenade, you’ll know the kind of foot traffic this gets – it is probably one of the higher-traffic locations we’ve ever done (and that includes 34th St. in NYC!). We worked with the Callison Partnership, who chose the FRP planters in our Iron Metal Matched Paint.  Click to continue »

Using Wilshire Rectangles to form a "living wall"

While we’re on the “hotels in Los Angeles” theme here (see the last post), it seemed a good time to post a few pictures from a project we worked on earlier this year. While it wasn’t a particularly large installation, it demonstrates nicely, as did the Hotel Redbury project, how Wilshire Collection rectangular planters can be used to form a sort of living wall.  More after the jump…

Teak Decking, oversized wicker furniture, large planters, daybeds, moorish inspired lanterns, and lush landscaping with wall of creeping fig & trees

in short, it sounds like paradise!  More after the jump…

Wilshire Collection Planters and VertiGreen Trellis

The Whole Foods Market, which is just opening today in Huntington Beach, CA, wanted an al fresco dining terrace in front of their store. The designer,  Courtney Le Architects, had a concept that replaced a simple fence to separate the outdoor patio from the walkway/parking area with a barrier using planters and trellis.  More images after the jump…

Reinventing the Starbucks experience (with Tournesol Siteworks!)

University Village Starbucks is one of the busiest in Seattle

Most have heard of the problems Starbucks Coffee stores went through several years ago, leading to significant changes to their chain- retraining employees, shuttering underperforming stores (including one near us), re-emphasizing the coffee experience, etc.  We were excited to be contacted by Starbucks’ Seattle-based design team to work with them on their new store concept.

Far above the corner of Eighth Ave. and 34th St. in New York, the Haymes Investment Company has created an idyllic terrace garden on the 22nd floor of the 5 Penn Plaza building.  Designed by Landgarden Landscape Architects and maintained by Greener by Design, the project used Urban and Wilshire Collection planters to create a comfortable space overlooking the New York skyline.
