Hanging with Kraft Gardens at the 2011 TPIE in Ft. Lauderdale

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

All pictures courtesy of Kraft Gardens

I got a call in December from Kevin Kraft of Kraft Gardens in Ft. Pierce, FL. He was working on the layout of their booth for this year’s TPIE, and he wanted to show their plants vertically. Living walls are one of the hot new topics for their interiorscape customers, and its a good way to showcase some of his plants. As one of the premier nurseries for commercial-quality plants in the country, we knew that they would do a good job with the display.  It doesn’t hurt that their booth is the first you see when you walk in the show, and that they positioned the TerraScreen front and center.

Upcoming January Tradeshows Part 2 – New England Grows (Boston) and MidAm (Chicago)

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

The MidAm trade show is the premier winter landscape show in the MidWest.  Held in Chicago at Navy Pier, it will take place Jan. 19-21.  We’ll be well represented this year at the booth of our local distributor-partner Midwest Trading, along with our local sales representative Brian Mitalo.  Midwest Trading will have a 4-module Tournesol VGM modular living wall on display (similar to the one at the Garfield Park Conservatory), as well as our FRP fiberglass containers and irrigation inserts.  They are in booth 1117 – it will be hard to miss, as they have one of the larger booths, together with their partner company Midwest Groundcover.

The New England Grows conference will be held on Feb. 2-4 at the Boston Exhibition and Convention Center. Our local distributor-partner, Bisco Irrigation, has become a valued resource for landscape contractors and designers using Tournesol Siteworks products in New England.  They will be in booth 2423.

They’ll have a wide variety of Tournesol products on hand, including our planters, irrigation, VGM modular living wall, VertiGreen Hybrid and VertiGreen trellis systems, and a recently added TerraScreen interior greenwall system. This is your opportunity to check out the products that you’ve seen in pictures, and ask questions of our sales representative Brian Mitalo.

Upcoming January Trade Shows – Landscape Industry Show (Los Angeles) and UtahGreen (Salt Lake City)

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

It’s trade show time again! Most landscape associations have their conferences and trade shows during the winter, primarily because their membership base isn’t terribly busy at that time of year.  Being a national supplier means that we display at many different shows – usually together with our local distributor-partners.  This year is no different

Our largest national partner, Ewing Irrigation, exhibited a large, planted Tournesol VGM modular living wall at the most recent Irrigation Association show in Phoenix. They will be featuring the same wall at booth #1239 at the upcoming Landscape Industry Show, sponsored by the California Landscape Contractors Association in Los Angeles on Jan. 12 & 13th.  Tournesol’s Southern California sales representative Jon Willingham will be on hand for most of the show to answer questions about the product.

They will also have the wall at their booth at the UtahGreen conference (sponsored by the Utah Nursery & Landscape Assoc.), taking place on Jan. 25-26 at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy.  Our Mountain States representative Ed Mathieu of Water Logic will be on hand. This is a great opportunity to see how the living wall system works for yourself!

Tournesol to participate on greenwall performance panel at Citiesalive in Vancouver

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

The Citiesalive conference starts tomorrow in Vancouver. If you’re there, make sure to attend the “On the roof with…” panel discussion during Session 4, at 4:45 on Thursday in the West Meeting Room 121-122. The topic, “Green Walls From Promise to Performance – Issues and Opportunities Looking Forward” is one that we consider vitally important to the continuing development of the living wall marketplace.  Click to continue »

Calvin Coolidge High School, Washington DC – ASLA ’10 Legacy Project

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

This year Tournesol Siteworks became involved for the first time with the ASLA Legacy Project following the recent ASLA conference in Washington DC.  We were asked by Hilary Oat-Judge of Washington DC landscape architects Oehme, Van Sweden & Assocs. to donate containers for this year’s project. As we got more involved, we found out what a great program this really is!  More after the break…

Thoughts on temporary living walls – Yokohama Tire and the Transbay Groundbreaking

Yokohama Living Wall at the Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance

I was down in Pebble Beach going by the Concourse d’Elegance (the most prestigious vintage automobile show in the country), and I happened to notice this display by Yokohama Tires.  After googling Yokohama, I discovered that they’ve been using different living wall displays in exhibits and shows around the country, and that it’s gotten them a lot of publicity.

Upcoming September Trade Shows – Calscape (San Diego) & ASLA (Washington DC)

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

We’ve got several trade show/conferences coming up, and hope that you’ll be able to join us at one of them!

The Calscape show, put on by the Plantscape Industry Alliance, is taking place on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before Labor Day.  It promises to be a great event!  One highlight will be a field tour on Wednesday of Greenscaped Building/Good Earth Plants facility in San Diego. They have our TerraScreen® living wall indoors, a VGM® edible garden outdoors, and a VertiGreen® Hybrid as well.  They will have a broad spectrum of green roof and living wall technologies on display.

At the show we’ll be showing off the versatility of the TerraScreen® interior living walls on stands. This combination allows us to make a “mobile garden”, as one of our clients called it,  and really liberated the use of interior green walls.  We’ll also be showing off the newest 3rd generation VGM® module, VertiGreen® Hybrid, as well as our pots, planters, and irrigation.

The conference is being held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, located right downtown.  If you want to find out more about attending, call us for details!

The National Am. Soc. of Landscape Architects meeting will be taking place at the Washington, DC Convention Center from September 10-13.  We love the opportunity each year to connect with our landscape architectural clients, and this year is no exception. The location is central enough that anyone from the Mid-Atlantic seaboard should try to make it.

While in town, you should go by the United States Botanical Gardens (on the National Mall) and check out the VGM® modular living wall that they created. It is a great coincidence for us – last year we had just installed the Garfield Park Conservatory living wall in Chicago before the ASLA, and this year the US Botanical Gardens.  There is a very large living wall specified for an exciting new Sir Richard Rogers-designed project on New Jersey St., but that doesn’t appear to be going in until next spring.

We’re also working with the firm of Oehme Van Sweden on this year’s ASLA Legacy project, which will benefit Coolidge High School in Washington.  We’ll be donating several large containers to go at the entrance of the garden that they are creating at the school.  We’re always pleased to be associated with projects that expand the awareness  of landscapes and green building in schools.

If you are interested in getting a show-only day pass for the conference, give us a call at 800-542-2282. We still have a few passes left, and would be glad to see you at the show!

Visit us at the AIA Convention in Miami – June 10-12 – Booth #633

Friday, May 21st, 2010

If you are attending the AIA National  Convention, held this year in Miami Beach, be sure to come by our booth to visit. We’re in booth #633, and will have a complete TerraScreen, VertiGreen Hybrid, and VGM Modular Living wall setup.  We’ll have copies of our catalog, and be glad to answer questions, demonstrate products, or just discuss the trends in urban landscapes.  A shout out to Steve at Fosterplants for helping us with the plants for the TerraScreen!
