We’re back, after a break between Christmas and New Year’s Day. After a week enjoying the green paradise of Costa Rica, I’m ready to go with my batteries recharged. I hope you feel the same.
Green walls/living walls managed to make several blogger’s “top green building trends for 2010” (courtesy of Goodworks) and “green building predictions for 2010” (courtesy of BuildDirect). Maybe this will be the year that they move into the mainstream as more installations are built.
Living walls have the distinct advantage over green roofs that they are visible, and offer the community continuous reinforcement of the green building message. As we bring the costs down on commercial-grade living wall and green facade systems, we expect the enthusiasm to continue to grow.
We’ve just filed a patent on our new VertiGreen™ Hybrid product! It cuts the cost of a living wall in half, without sacrificing the durability or creating a long-term maintenance nightmare. Continue reading Tournesol files patent on new pre-grown trellis product
If you’ve spoken with someone from Tournesol in the last 6 months, you’ve probably heard about the new catalog that was “just around the corner”. While it took a lot longer to pull together than we anticipated, it’s finally here!
At 88 pages, it has complete sections on our Green Building Products (including living wall, green facades, and our new VertiGreen product), Container Irrigation, and Pots, Planters and Site Furnishings. In addition to complete product specifications we’ve added complete technical sections on installation and use of the products. Oh, and did we mention pictures? It’s full of installation images to give you an idea how others have used our products, and provide inspiration for your next project.
You can view the pdf of the catalog here, or drop us a line to get a hard copy via mail. We’d also love your commentary or thoughts on it, too.

There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding living walls in the news in the last few days. First, this article in Time Magazine named the Living Wall concept #31 on it’s top 50 inventions of 2009. They highlighted the work of Patrick Blanc, who’s been innovating in the space for years. This article in the New York Times highlighted Tournesol customer Kari Katzander of Mingo Design (see her work on p. 40 of our new catalog) and Continue reading Living Walls are in the news…but is it the right message?
If you’ve found this post, you’ve found the beginning of our Projects, People and Products section on our website.
There is a lot going on at Tournesol Siteworks, and we figured you might be interested in what we’re working on, what kinds of projects our products are used in, and what’s going on with the company. We’ll post projects, product developments, company news, environmental updates, and anything else that seems relevant.
This section of the site uses a blog format, so the easiest way to find what you are interested in is either by searching (use the search bar to the right), or using the categories shown in the box below. The project posts are categorized by the type of installation, and the product information is broken down by product family.
We welcome comments, discussions, and feedback to any and all posts here. The comments will be moderated, but not censored – excepting, of course, those not suitable for a public forum.
We’re also linking this to our new facebook page – I hope you’ll take the time to go to the page (http://www.facebook.com/#/pages/Tournesol-Siteworks/178012377377?ref=ts) and become a “fan”. We’ll be linking our Projects, People and Products posts to that page, so you can stay up to date on what’s new here. We also have a discussion forum at the facebook page, so if you have questions regarding our products, their use, or other questions you can address them to our community there.
